Office on Aging & Disability Services Are Temporarily Closed to Walk-Ins

All Somerset County-operated senior centers will continue to adhere to public health guidelines for the safety of clients and caregivers by remaining temporarily closed until August 31.

The Office on Aging & Disability Services is temporarily closed to walk-ins, but the staff is available to answer questions via telephone. Clients who are seeking assistance can call 908-704-6346 or toll-free at 1–888 –747–1122 and leave their name, phone number and a brief message. Calls will be returned as soon as possible. Chronic Disease Diabetes Self-Management Workshop

Six-week workshop (2½ hour sessions) for people with ongoing or long-term health conditions. You will learn practical skills helping you to live a healthy and fulfilling life; includes the book Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Conditions. Locations: Throughout Somerset County. FREE!

Project Healthy Bones

Peer-led, 24-week exercise and education program (1½ hour sessions) for individuals who are at risk or who have osteoporosis. Exercises focus on balance, strength, flexibility, and posture. Exercise manual and ankle weights provided. Locations: Throughout the county. Fee: First 24-week session is $45.00 (new participants only); each additional 24-week session is $10.00.

Tai Chi

Low impact, slow motion exercise comprised of a series of gentle movements while breathing deeply and naturally. Tai chi has been known to improve muscle strength, balance, and flexibility. Locations: Montgomery, Quail Brook, and Basking Ridge Senior Centers. Fee: $40.00 for 8 weeks.

Zumba Gold

Combines Latin and international music with easy-to-follow dance moves to create fun and effective fitness classes. The class design is for all levels of fitness and no experience is needed. Locations: Warrenbrook, Manville, Montgomery, and Basking Ridge Senior Centers. Fee: $40.00 for 8 weeks.

Dancing

Not only is dancing an exceptional way to let loose and have fun, but it also provides some terrific health benefits including increased endurance, reduced stress, improved strength, increased muscle tone, and coordination. Locations: Quail Brook Senior Center and Warrenbrook Senior Center. FREE!

One-on-One Computer Instruction

Instruction is customized to cover areas that participants want to learn about. Topics can include basic computer use, word processing, the internet, and email. Locations: Senior Wellness Center, Quail Brook Senior Center and Warrenbrook Senior Center. FREE!

Water Exercise

Includes Water Pilates, Deep Water Exercise, Water Walking, Aqua Boot Camp, Hydro Exercise Program. Location: Somerset Valley YMCA. Fee: $35.00 for 10 weeks.

Managing Concerns about Falls

Peer-led, eight session program (2 hours each) that offers practical strategies to reduce your fear of falling, address safety issues, increase activity levels, and improve balance, flexibility, and strength through exercise. FREE!
